Reviews:

I grew up in South Texas no more than a few hundred miles from Vernon’s family holdings and his story telling reminds me of stories I grew up on. Being a decade a some younger than Scooter and live on a cattle ranch big but not as extensive as his acreage. Working cattle in that day and time reminds me of tales of my Grandfather his rounding up wild longhorns.
And those nachos I grew up on lol. Now the syrup was a situation I can’t even imagine.
He writes true and from the heart , not many do that these days so highly recommend “ Tales of the Vegas”.

This book is very entertaining. I found it funny and inspiring, motivational, and emotional. This book is essentially organized chaos, and I enjoyed reading every page of it. The writing felt very authentic and vivid, as if I was there experiencing this all first hand. If you enjoy reading family and cultural history types of books, then I think you will really enjoy this book as well.

From the first pages, the narrative grips readers with its authenticity. The protagonist’s voice resonates with the innocence and naivety of youth thrust into an adult world filled with challenges and dangers he never could have anticipated. As he navigates the trials of working in this harsh environment, his resilience and determination shine through.
This is a riveting memoir that offers a glimpse into a world unknown for me and because of that I really enjoyed it.

Tales of Vegas by Vernon Reaser Jr. is set in the 1950s in Texas, where a young man named Scooter has to get used to a completely new life managing a vast ranch. Detailing his remarkable, sometimes funny and sometimes touching adventures and experiences, this is a feel-good read with dashes of humor. The narrative voice shines clearly throughout the book, giving it a feel of genuineness and immediacy. This book will appeal to readers who enjoy memoir-style writing, slice of life stories and tales about the so-called “Wild West”. I am giving this entertaining book a well-deserved five out of five stars. I hope the author writes more like this.

It’s pretty fascinating to hear about what this part of Texas was like in the 1950s, and author Vernon Reaser Jr proves more than capable of telling us all about it. The period details are many, and they’re quite convincing. Scooter proves to be an engaging individual to spend some time with, and this-coming-of-age story is just as memorable and imaginative as anything Mark Twain or Laura Ingalls Wilder ever wrote.
